Covers 77.367 km2 with 4 districts: Saurimo, Dala, Muconda and Cacolo. The capital is Saurimo. It has a tropical humid weather and annual average temperature of around 22 ºC.
It existed since 1978 from the division of the big Lunda. The Lunda-Tchokwe ethnic group represents the majority of the population divided into Bângalas, Xinge, Minungos, Luvales, Mbundas and Balubas (the last one as a result of mixture of people from Moxico and Lunda Norte).
The main economic activities are agriculture and mining. They also rely on artisan, fishing and handcraft production of sculpture, is their highest cultural expression and rich in folklore music, traditional dancing and song.
