Up north province, it has boundary with Democratic Republic of Congo in the east, Republic of Congo in the north and the Atlantic Ocean in the west. It comprises of 4 districts covering 7,270 km2: Belize, Buco Zau, Cabinda and Lândana. The weather is tropical humid having average with 25ºC as temperature.
Cabinda is well known for its tradition passed from generation to generation which characterizes specific moments of the community life.
Bakama is one the ethnic group responsible for maintaining and practicing the tradition. They are a cultural group with their own beliefs. They use different masks for different rituals. The Bakama shows up during the township celebration date, always with painted masks on and wearing dry leaves of banana.
They carry a swipper made out of palm oil tree. The majority is basically from Bakongo origin including clans from Bawoyo, Bakoki, Balingi, Bayombe and Basundi groups. The most spoken language is ibinda which up north is called Kiombe and south kiwoyo. They rely basically on oil extraction which is also the major source of employment for large part of the population. But, they also practice agriculture, cattle breeding and have a very big timber industry.
Early before the discovery of oil, the Portuguese people used to call the place as Porto Rico due to its natural richness.
The Mayombe forest covers a big view and it is part of many stories on the Angolan literature. Maiombe is called the "vegetal sea" because it is difficult to penetrate.
It has a lot of vegetation and animal va-rieties, famous speciality of butterflies which some of them are rarely to found somewhere else than this region.
